Planner, primarily interested in planning theory. Professor at Politecnico di Milano (School Architettura e Società; Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e del paesaggio SSBAP (School of specialization in Architectural and Landscape Heritage).
He graduated in architecture to the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano in the 1969. From 1969 to 1976 he had charges as collaborator and entrusted assistant with ministerial scholarships or grants.
Assistant professor from 1976 to the 1982 and associated professor since 1982.
He had been: president of the Center for Cultural Heritage and Environment in Lombardy (Centro per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali della Lombardia) from 1986 to 2003; member of the scientific committee of MONDOGIS from 2001 and was member of the ASITA scientific committee from 2004 to 2009 and of the AMFM Gis scientific committee from 2005 to the 2008.
Main interests were on theory, with attention to transportation, cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. He has deepened the devices of the urban development, the relationships among data, information, knowledge and modelling, the potentialities of the cartography and of the geographical information systems: the question was to investigate the more adequate and suitable techniques in Decision Support System applied to planning and managing regional resources.
He collaborated with university and industrial firms (Olivetti spa, Ibm Semea spa, ComputerVision Spa, Consortium Milano Ricerche, Erasmus and Cilea) for researches and educational activities on information technologies applied to land planning, transportation and cultural heritage.
He was scientific manager of a research unity within the two Projects on Transportation promoted by the CNR (Progetto Finalizzato Trasporti). From these experiences he was charged by Italtel Telesis to develop software for a traffic control system in real time, always combining practices with theoretical implications and their transfer to institutional education and publications. That was the start-up for a new firm: in 1993 he together with the arch. Adele Maria Cunietti (unique administrator) and to the arch. Vincenzo Curti founded in Milan an engineering firm (Nus soluzione per la pianificazione urbana e territorile srl). Nus srl is specialized in traffic planning and road design.
In 2007 Marescotti with Lorenzo Mussone, (researcher at the BEST), promoted the Cluster Motus "Models, Tools and Technologies for the Government of the Mobility", participated by others departments: INDACO (Department of Industrial Design, of the Arts, of the Communication and of the Fashion), DEI (Department of Electronics and Information) and DIAP (Department of Architecture and Planning). Since 1983 he's working with Provincia di Milano for the inventory of the Architetctural and Environmental Heritage.
